They’re both used to hitting the back of the net, but Sam Kerr and girlfriend Kristie Mewis shot their best poses in a glamorous photoshoot for Gaffer magazine.

Chelsea and Matildas striker Kerr, 29, is one of the best players in women’s football, and has won every domestic trophy and two golden boots with her club, while Mewis, 31, is leading the way with National Women’s Soccer League side Gotham FC.

The pair are understood to have started dating two-and-a-half years ago, when photos emerged of them getting close following a match between Australia and the US at the Tokyo Olympics.

Kerr and Mewis have been inseparable ever since, and have fast become the ‘power couple’ of women’s football.

And in an exclusive interview with Gaffer, the pair flaunted their complete adoration for each other in a stylish photoshoot.

Pictured hand in hand, wearing a variety of different outfits ranging from a bold red number to eye-catching white and tan overcoats, Kerr and Mewis looked as comfortable in front of a camera as they are in front of goal.

The loved-up pair admitted that while they share an unbreakable bond, things change whenever they face each other on the pitch.

‘What I worry about most out of anything is that our coaches or teammates don’t think that we can separate the two. I hope people know that when it’s training time or play time, it doesn’t come into it,’ Kerr said.

‘I remember one time in Newcastle (Australia) she came on, we were playing against each other, and we went in on each other. We’d kill each other. But I worry that people think that we’re not serious about our careers.’

‘We did play a match against each other but I thought her team was crazy. When I play I’m such a s**t stirrer and she (Mewis) was getting so angry,’ Kerr said.

The pair first communicated on Instagram and quarantined together in the United States

‘We always talked about this one time where she tried to get the ball, it was a free kick for her team. She put the ball down and I kicked it away and was like, really? We didn’t know each other apart from that.’

It’s clear both she and Mewis will not be holding back in the slightest, with both Australia and the USA entirely realistic hopes of taking out the tournament.

‘We’re just raging for the next six months to the World Cup, doing whatever we can,’ Kerr said.

‘We both feel like we’ve been gunning for this World Cup for so long now that it’s kind of going to be like we’re just giving everything for the next six months and then it’s gonna be like a breath of fresh air.’
