Ratcliffe’s stance on Greenwood and decision date according to Fabrizio Romano

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Mason Greenwood's situation is being discussed internally at Manchester United by prospective investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

In a season of chaos at Old Trafford, United have been battling crises both on and off the pitch. Results under Erik ten Hag have seen the club endure their worst start to a season since they were relegated back in 1974, with United having lost 10 games already this term.

To make matters worse, while they currently sit seventh in the Premier League, they have routinely been outclassed by the teams that sit above them in the table this term. their most recent domestic defeat seeing them bested by an injury stretched Newcastle side last weekend.

Amid results on the pitch, the club's protracted ownership saga continues to rumble on with Ratcliffe set to confirm his investment in the 13-time Premier League champions imminently. According to transfer guru Romano, Ratcliffe is already having discussions about the future of Greenwood, who is currently on loan at Getafe.

Since moving to the La Liga side, the 22-year-old has made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. And now Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Ratcliffe, who is set to buy a 25 per cent portion of the club alongside control of football operations, will reassess their position on Greenwood in the spring next year.

Romano wrote for CaughtOffside: "Incoming co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is already discussing Greenwood’s situation internally, and from what I’m told, he’s made no decision at all and nothing will be decided in December.

"So the idea is to take some time and just let Greenwood play football. Then, based on his performances for Getafe, Man United will discuss their position and that of the player. This will likely take place in March, April or May.

"There will be many different factors to consider, and obviously the new Man United board will have a new CEO and new people in charge of the transfer market, meaning that they will all decide on transfer business together."

Greenwood was sent on loan to Getafe after an internal investigation by United concluded he should continue his career elsewhere.
