Matheus Cunha has ‘miss of the season so far’ as he wastes chance vs Liverpool

Matheus Cunha put his name into the hat for the worst miss of the Premier League season while playing for Wolves.

The Brazil international somehow misjudged a perfectly weighted cross from Pedro Neto which beat the Liverpool defence – heading into the floor to leave the home support baffled.

The 24-year-old was under no pressure to hit the target, but failed to build on Hwang Hee-chan's opening goal. Darren Fletcher said on TNT Sports commentary: "How on earth is it not 2-0? A brilliant chance by Pedro Neto again. Just sensational."

One review on social media said: "Cunha with the worst miss of the season so far. This one is unbelievable."

A second added: "How did Cunha misread that so badly? Surely the miss of the season that…"

A third agreed: "Great performance from everyone except Cunha. Everyone and his dog knows he isn't a striker, that miss was unbelievable."

A fourth insisted: "Nah someone clip that Cunha miss RIGHT NOW."

Wolves took the lead through Hee-Chan after more fine work from Neto – with the South Korea international forcing his shot over the line.

Liverpool came into the fixture looking to go top of the table, but struggled to get a foothold before the break.

Jurgen Klopp then looked to change things up by bringing on Luis Diaz at the break – with Cody Gakpo equalising just before his own substitution.

Klopp said before the match: "It’s the Premier League, if you asked me now: 'Is there any away ground where you like to go and think oh my God, we have the points already'. There is none."

He added: "Players like Hwang and Sasa Kalajdzic don’t even start.

"They still have Neto and other guys, so it’s a really, really good football team and that’s the team we prepare for."
