Romelu Lukaku scores four goals in 20 minutes during brutal international rout

While he might still be mocked profusely by Premier League fans, it seems as though Romelu Lukaku is enjoying himself this term.

Having left Chelsea once again on-loan in the summer, this time reuniting with his former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho at Roma after spending last term with Inter Milan, Lukaku has been in strong form so far during the 2023/24 season.

In Serie A this term, the 30-year-old has bagged nine goals in 14 games, but it's on the international stage where Lukaku has shone best. And in Belgium's latest EURO 2024 qualifier against Azerbaijan, he bagged himself an impressive four goals in a 20 minute first half spell to essentially put the game to bed by the 37 minute.

Lukaku opened the scoring for Belgium on 17 minutes, beginning his four goal rout of Azerbaijan who had Eddy Pascual sent off on 24 minutes. Lukaku then added his second and third in quick succession following Pascual's red before then adding his fourth on 37 minutes.

The contest finished 5-0 to Belgium, who will be playing at EURO 2024 next summer, with a late injury-time strike from Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard putting the icing on the result.

The four goal haul from the ex-Man United forward moved him onto 83 international goals for Belgium in 113 appearances. And it means the Belgian striker has now scored an impressive eight goals in four games for his country so far this term.

It seems unlikely however that despite his good form, Lukaku will be returning to Stamford Bridge anytime soon though. Despite having paid just shy of £100m for Lukaku to bring him back to Chelsea, the Belgian fell out with then boss Thomas Tuchel, which prompted him to be loaned out last term.

And despite new management being in charge at Stamford Bridge these days, it does not appear as though Mauricio Pochettino has any plans for Lukaku in his first team either.
