Liverpool suffer David Alaba transfer blow as Juventus, Man City and Real Madrid eye star
Liverpool have suffered a blow in their bid to sign David Alaba as a replacement for injured Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez during the January transfer window, as reports suggest Juventus are now leading the way to sign the Bayern Munich ace. Reports from Italy claim Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen.
Liverpool are believed to be looking at Alaba as a potential solution to their centre-back options.
The Reds have suffered multiple injuries to star defenders in recent weeks, and are now struggling for players at the back.
Van Dijk suffered an ACL injury against Everton earlier this season, and is not expected to return this season.
If he does, he will likely come back in the latter stages of the season with just a few games left.

After undergoing surgery on his knee, Liverpool refused to set a timetable on his return, with many believing it is more probable that he sits out the rest of the season.
Things went from bad to worse for Liverpool when Fabinho – who had been filling in for Van DIjk – suffered a hamstring injury.
While his problem isn’t as severe and he isn’t expected to miss the same amount of game time, he has still been sidelined leaving Jurgen Klopp short of options.
Things took yet another turn for the worse when Gomez suffered a knee injury, which is likely to keep him out for the large portion of the season.

That leaves Klopp with just a handful of options at centre-back, with Joel Matip, Sepp van den Berg, Nat Phillips and youngster Rhys Williams being his only natural central defenders remaining.
For that reason, Liverpool have been tipped to go into the transfer market during the January window in order to sign either a short-term fix until the end of the season or a big-money world-class centre-back to provide competition for Gomez and Van Dijk.
It had been speculated that Liverpool would opt against splashing the cash during January, but the Reds have done so in the past – having bought Van Dijk from Southampton for £75million in the 2018 winter window.
If they did decide for a short-term solution, however, Alaba has been tipped to be a potential arrival.
The Austrian – who can play left-back or centre-back – is out of contract at the end of the season, and has told Bayern Munich that he will not sign an extension.
He is widely expected to leave next summer on a free, but it has been rumoured that Bayern could sell during January in order to recoup some funds.
However, Liverpool have suffered a setback in their bid to sign him, as reports in Italy claim Juventus are currently leading the way.
The Italian champions are on the hunt for a long-term replacement for Georginio Chiellini, and view the Austrian star as the ideal man to come in.
Chiellini is currently set to become a free agent next summer, but Juve could extend his deal until 2022 and wait to sign Alaba in June, claims Tuttosport.
That tactic could give Liverpool the upper hand if they look to bring him in immediately rather than waiting until the season finishes and Alaba’s contract expires.
Italian outlet Tuttosport claims Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Real Madrid are all in the hunt.
