Jurrien Timber to ‘miss nearly the entire season’ in devastating Arsenal blow

Arsenal new boy Jurrien Timber could be sidelined until the end of the season after picking up an injury against Nottingham Forest, according to reports. The 22-year-old only joined the Gunners last month but may be out for a lengthy period of time after being forced off during Arsenal’s win over the Reds on Saturday.

Timber sustained a knee injury 50 minutes into his Premier League debut and was quickly substituted and helped off the pitch by Arsenal medics. The north Londoners confirmed on Monday that further tests would be required to determine the full extent of the problem and it seems as though it will not be good news for Timber.

His injury is likely to keep him on the treatment table for ‘almost all of this season’, according to CBS, which will represent a devastating blow for the Gunners going forward. They paid around £38m to sign Timber from Ajax just over a month ago and would have been counting on him to feature heavily in his debut campaign.

The Dutchman has impressed during his short time at Arsenal and played in a number of different positions throughout pre-season. He featured at right-back during their tour of the United States and filled in for the injured Oleksandr Zinchenko on the left in his first two competitive matches.

Arsenal will have several options to replace Timber during his recovery, with Ben White reliable at right-back and Zinchenko nearing a return to fitness after spending months on the sidelines. Kieran Tierney could also be drafted in despite being linked with a move elsewhere, while Jakub Kiwior is able to cover at left-back should he be required to deputise.
