Arturo Vidal has joined Brazilian giants Flamengo on a free transfer from Inter Milan after choosing to snub Boca Juniors in their attempts to sign him.

Flamengo advanced talks to bring the Chilean midfielder to Brazil after Argentina’s Boca Juniors attempted to hijack the deal.

Vidal leaves Serie A side Inter Milan on a free transfer after spending two years in Italy and arrives in South America on an 18-month contract until December 2023, according to Globo.

The Brazilian club could unveil their new star signing as early as next week with their league season well underway and Flamengo languishing in seventh place.

Vidal won the Serie A title during his two-year stint at Inter Milan after joining the club in 2020

Vidal faced disciplinary action from his previous club after stating his wishes to join his new side in an interview earlier in the year.

Chilean teammate and former Arsenal and Manchester United attacker Alexis Sanches is also expected to leave Inter Milan this summer as well.

Vidal made 41 appearances for the Italian side last season despite reportedly falling out of favour with the club’s hierachy.

Vidal has played for a host of European giants during his career including Spain’s Barcelona

The central midfielder scored three goals and registered six assists across all competitions as Inter finished two points behind league champions AC Milan.

The 35-year-old leaves European football after a successful career that saw him play for some of the World’s biggest clubs including Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona since leaving Bayern Leverkusen in 2011.

He was previously touted as a potential transfer target by Manchester United and Tottenham but never made the switch to the Premier League.

Vidal becomes the second Inter Milan player to join Flamengo in two years after Gabriel Barbosa sealed a move to the club for an undisclosed fee in 2020.
