Chelsea transfer news: Four free agents Granovskaia and Lampard could sign

Chelsea: Lampard opens up on January transfer plans

Chelsea are ready to look at further signings after a spending spree but Frank Lampard may have to scour the bargain bin. After over £200m spent on the likes of Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, Blues chief Marina Granovskaia is already eyeing some free agents that will see their contracts expire in the summer.

Chelsea are already looking to strengthen their squad as the January transfer window opens.

But they may be tempted to wait until the summer where they can sign players for nothing as their contracts expire while talks can take place now.

With six months to go until June, the Blues are able to open negotiations with players from abroad over a pre-contract agreement that will see them arrive in the summer.

They have already been linked with one, AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could be set to sign for Chelsea at the end of the season.

And there are many more who could make a similar move, including Bayern Munich star David Alaba, Lyon hotshot Memphis Depay and Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi is the biggest profile as speculation over his future ramps up by the day, but Manchester City and Paris St-Germain are the favourites to land him.

Closer to home, Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil, City striker Sergio Aguero and Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum will all be free agents in the summer if their contract issues are not resolved.

But who are the most likely to arrive at Stamford Bridge?

Gianluigi Donnarumma

Despite signing Edouard Mendy in the summer from Rennes, the Senegal international was seen as an immediate solution to the club’s Kepa Arrizabalaga issue.

Lampard was desperate to sign a competent goalkeeper after losing faith in the Spaniard and Mendy has been a good acquisition but the Blues boss is looking for more.

David Alaba

Chelsea have been linked with the Bayern Munich star but so have the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The Austrian has undoubted quality and could play in a variety of positions across defence and attack, making him a very attractive proposition.

Memphis Depay

Since his failed move at United, Depay has worked himself into being a tidy attacking player, headlining Lyon’s attractive attack.

Barcelona tried to sign him in the summer and failed so Ronald Koeman is expected to go back in for the Dutchman but Chelsea could add to their own offensive qualities with the 26-year-old.

Jerome Boateng

Chelsea signed Thiago Silva on a freebie last year and it has worked out stupendously and Boateng could have a similar impact.

The Germany international has won everything at Bayern Munich and has supreme experience while still displaying the same athletic attributes from years ago.
