Team GB have come under fire for being too “arrogant” after being thrashed by the Netherlands in the women’s hockey semi-final. The match between Great Britain and the Netherlands was a repeat of the Rio 2016 final when the former won gold after penalties.
Maddie Hinch was the hero for Great Britain five years ago and she’s saved her country on numerous occasions at this year’s Olympics.
But the goalkeeper was unable to prevent Great Britain from falling to a humiliating 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Felice Albers and Frederique Matla kept up their hot scoring streak as Team GB struggled to break down their opponents.
It means the Netherlands advance to their fifth consecutive Olympics final while Great Britain will battle it out against India for the bronze medal on Friday.

There has been no love lost between Great Britain and the Netherlands over the years with the two teams constantly competing for the sport’s top prizes.
Hinch had said prior to the semi-final the Netherlands were carrying a grudge from 2016.
“It’s just an advantage to us that 2016 is still in the back of the minds of the Dutch,” she said.
“I’m sure they’ll say it’s not. But it probably still is a bit.”
DON’T MISS
And following the 5-1 win, Netherlands captain Eva de Goede laid into the Great British players for their “arrogant” nature.
“I think everyone had their own personal reason why we wanted to beat them so badly,” she told Dutch Hockey’s official website.
“We have the feeling that those girls always have a lot of bravado, almost arrogant.
“We really wanted to show today that they certainly don’t come near us. I’m glad we were able to play our own game and knock them all out.”
And Margot van Geffen added to the war of words between the two teams, admitting it felt “great” to knock Great Britain out.
“They may say it hurts us, but that just gave me energy,” she said.
“I can remember a lot of quarter-finals, semi-finals and other tournaments where we humiliated them.
“Take, for example, the European Championship in 2019, in which we won 8-0. That hurts, too, don’t you think?
“You also see today: It was pure luck what they put down in Rio. It’s great that we’re sending them home like this.”
