  • Rapper has placed bets on Jones to win by both knock out and submission
  • Jones will make his heavyweight debut with the vacant UFC title on the line

Music superstar Drake has gone all-out in putting his support behind Jon Jones at UFC 285.

Jones, widely considered to be one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, is set to return on Saturday following a three-year layoff to take on former interim UFC Champion Ciryl Gane.

The headline bout marks the fulfillment of Jones’ long standing ambition to transition to the heavyweight class, after spending the entirety of his 15-year stint in the organisation to this point at 205lbs.

In a post to his 132million followers on Instagram, the God’s Plan hitmaker shared a pair of screenshots showing that he has placed a quarter of a million dollars on two seperate bets; one for Jones to win by submission and one for him to win by KO.

Should Jones emerge from his UFC Heavyweight Championship clash victorious via submission Drake’s estimated payout is stated as $1,700,000, while a knockout win could see him earn $1,300,000.

With his own long-awaited return to the Octagon on the way, Conor McGregor has been an active presence at the UFC 285 fight week and commented on Drake’s post, writing ‘Nice bet, was thinking same.’

Jones’ most recent stoppage victory in the UFC came in 2018 when he defeated Alexander Gustafsson via fourth-round KO in their highly-anticipated rematch.

However, whist Drake’s proven to not be afraid to put his money behind his favoured fighters in the past, the 36-year-old has developed something of a reputation for consistently backing fighters that go on to lose.

Just last week he placed a £335,000 wager on Jake Paul to knock out Tommy Fury, with the rapper left out of pocket as the Problem Child ultimately went on to lose a split decision in Saudi Arabia.

Drake has also posted significant losses in the past with whilst gambling on the UFC, backing Jorge Masvidal and Israel Adesanya in losing efforts against Colby Covington and Alex Pereira respectively.

Despite this, Drake has has some success after posting his bets in the past. The rapper posted a £3,000,000 jackpot after backing Scouse pair Molly McCann and Paddy Pimblett to emerge victorious at UFC London last year.

Following the massive win, the music superstar vowed to purchase Rolexs for both of the victorious fighters, making good on his promise with McCann sharing an image of her timepiece online last year.
