Glenn Maxwell’s wife slams shocking abuse from Indian cricket fans after World Cup – as another Aussie WAG is hit with vile slurs

Indian trolls have targeted the wife of Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell following Australia’s thrilling World Cup victory over the subcontinent nation on Sunday.

Maxwell hit the winning runs in the shock six-wicket win over raging favourites India, leaving many fans furious.

Almost 100,000 cricket fans packed Narendra Modi Stadium for the final while millions watched on television, anticipating an Indian victory.

But after going through the tournament undefeated, India was beaten at the final hurdle.

Now the big-hitting allrounder’s wife Vini Raman – who was born in India – has revealed how some supporters took the loss too far with shocking abuse directed at her and Maxwell.

‘Cue all the hateful, vile DMs (direct messages). Stay classy,’ she wrote on social media platform X.

‘Can’t believe this needs to be said but you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband and father of your child plays in. 

Take a chill pill and direct that outrage towards more important world issues.’ 

Even that posted attracted bitter sentiments from Indian fans.

‘Are you happy with India’s loss or your husband’s victory?’ one asked.

‘Real champions India,’ posted another.

Vini was not the only Aussie WAG subjected to distressing treatment following Australia’s triumph.

Travis Head’s wife, Jessica, has also been targeted with reprehensible comments on social media after she was seen  celebrating in the Australian team sheds alongside her husband on Sunday, following his outstanding innings of 137. 

Bitter Indian fans even targeted journalists, with ESPN writer Steve Smith – who is no relation to the Aussie batsman – revealed the barbs he received in his inbox.

‘I hope plane crashes, all of your team die along with their family members,’ one message read.

‘If I ever see you somewhere, you’re not walking out from there,’ read another.

Ian Higgins, who hosts the popular Grade Cricketer podcast, was also told to ‘kill himself’.

Australia shocked India in the ICC World Cup final, handing out their only loss of the tournament to claim the trophy for a record sixth time.

India cricket fans were left shocked by the result after going into the match as raging favourites

Even New Zealand player Jimmy Neesham was targeted by Indian fans thinking he was Australian.

‘People who don’t know Aus and NZ are two different countries,’ he posted on Instagram with an image of him flipping the middle finger.

Many Indian fans leapt to the defence of the Aussie team and their WAGs, condemning the abuse they copped.

‘Feeling ashamed as an Indian cricket fan,’ one posted.

‘Our cricket fanbase is one of the most toxic in the world. It’s unfair to resort to abuse directed at players or anyone’s spouse.’
