Sentry Tournament of Champions: Kevin Tway in lead as Justin Thomas, 2 others sit one shot back

The PGA Tour kicked off its 2019 schedule Thursday at the Sentry Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course in Maui, HI and Kevin Tway started about as well as he could have wanted.

The 30-year-old shot a 7-under 66 to finish the day in the lead.

Tway made seven birdies with no bogeys.

Just one shot back, World No. 3 and No. 4 Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas sit at 6 under. Gary Woodland is also tied for second.

Patton Kizzire, who is a couple of strokes back at 4 under, made the shot of the day as he registered a hole-in-one on the par-3 eight. It was his first ace on tour.

Elsewhere on the course, World No. 8 Rory McIlroy and No. 14 Jason Day are tied for sixth at 4 under.

World No. 6 Jon Rahm is tied for 11th at 3 under.
