Floyd Mayweather praises Aaron Chalmers after exhibition bout

‘This guy is tough as nails!’: Floyd Mayweather heaps praise on ‘tough’ reality TV star Aaron Chalmers after they went the distance in exhibition bout… with 46-year-old eager to see him ‘believe in his skills’ if he carries on boxing

  • Floyd Mayweather has praised Aaron Chalmers’ performance in their exhibition
  • Reality TV star managed to go eight rounds with the five-weight world champion
  • Chalmers revealed he hopes to move into burgeoning influencer-boxing sphere

Floyd Mayweather has heaped praise on Aaron Chalmers following their exhibition bout at the O2 Arena.

Chalmers entered the exhibition with just one prior boxing match under his belt, but performed commedably given the gulf in experience between himself and the pound-for-pound great.

Mayweather unsurprisingly dominated the action during the eight-round exhibition, but Chalmers managed to reach the final bell without being stopped, unlike many of Money’s previous opponents.

Speaking following the bout Mayweather hailed the reality TV star’s durability, and called the 35-year-old former MMA fighter a ‘tough competitor.’

‘This guy is tough as nails, I came over to the UK to entertain the people. We had fun for eight rounds and I’m glad that I came.

‘What he has to do is work hard and believe in his skills, because he’s got a good chin and he’s a tough competitor.’

Meanwhile Chalmers thanked Mayweather and his team for the experience and added the hopes the exhibition will allow him to get fights within the ‘influencer boxing’ sphere.

‘He caught us clean on the chin in the second round and it did wake me up a lot, but he’s just unbelievable. That’s one to tell the grandkids.’

‘We got as many sparring partners in but you can’t get anyone in to do what Floyd does. The win for me was to get to the eighth round and that’s what I did. Thanks for Floyd and his team I’m now in the mix for Jake Paul, KSI and hopefully bigger names.’

British kickboxing legend Liam Harrison had initially been announced as Mayweather’s opponent for the event, but was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.

The event ultimately failed to attract significant ticket sales, with the O2 Arena appearing virtually empty, particularly during the undercard bouts.

Chalmers, best known for his stint on Geordie Shore, was drafted in to serve as the the opponent in the latest of Mayweather’s exhibition bouts since he officially ended his professional career with an tenth-round stoppage over Conor McGregor in 2017.

Since then, the 46-year-old has competed in exhibitions around the world, earning stoppage wins over Japanese combat sports stars Tenshin Nasukawa and Mikuru Asakura and British YouTuber Deji Olatunji, and has gone the distance in non-scored bouts with Logan Paul, Don Moore, and Chalmers.
