John Cena delivers ‘perfect moments’ cryptic message as WWE prepares for Money in the Bank
Cena hasn’t been seen on WWE programming since WrestleMania at the beginning of April.
The 16-time WWE champ has refrained in recent years from any in-ring action as his movie career begins lift off.
Many are comparing Cena’s career transition to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s, who also made a successful switch from the wrestling ring to the big screen.
But just hours before Money in the Bank tonight, Cena has posted a message which has left many wondering whether hey may be back in his jean shorts for one night.
Cena wrote on Twitter: “In a day and age of filters and showcasing only “perfect moments”, never lose the real you.
“In trying to be liked by everyone, don’t become no one.”
His reference to being the ‘real you’ could be read as Cena feeling like he belongs back in a WWE ring.
The last time Cena competed was at the Royal Rumble in January when he faced Finn Balor and Drew McIntyre in a triple-threat match.
Cena lost the match and suffered an ankle injury which ruled him out of the Rumble match later in the night.
At the end of last year, Cena apologised to The Rock for his comments years ago that Johnson failed to commit himself fully to WWE life – ‘selling out’ for Hollywood.
“I’m sorry and I was wrong,” he told Gorilla Position podcast.
“This is a very tough balancing act and when I called out Dwayne, I called him out because of ignorance.
“I called him out as someone that had tunnel vision in WWE and didn’t understand the process that when you make a movie, you are not allowed to do anything else because if you ruin this — if Seth Rollins splits my nose open over here — I can’t film the movie.
“There’s hundreds of other people whose financial well being depend on whether I show up to work in one piece.”
Cena, however, could be in line to return tonight if his tweet is anything to go by.
