The Open 2019 returns to Northern Ireland – how Royal Portrush has been whipped into shape

But he will have to overcome a strong challenge from an American contingent that have dominated the recent Majors, including world No1. Brooks Koepke, Dustin Johnson and, of course, a rejuvenated Tiger Woods.

Koepka, who has won four Majors in the blink of an eye, also has a caddie on his bag in the shape of Ricky Elliott who just happens to hail from Portrush.

Spaniard Jon Rahm arrives in fine form following his Irish Open win, while Adam Scott and Englishman Justin Rose are also strongly fancied.

In a country where people have long been divided, golf has the power to unite them. Portrush is the perfect place to do just this.
