Mark Wood was pulled out of Durham’s County Championship match versus Sussex following two sets of scans on his problematic left ankle.
As Sportsmail revealed last week, the England management delayed his return to domestic action by a week after initially announcing he would be available in the opening-round defeat at Derbyshire.
Now, his schedule ahead of the World Cup and Ashes is up in the air after the checks on an ankle operated on three times led them to extend the 29-year-old’s rest period into Cameron Bancroft’s debut as Durham captain.

It is understood that the ECB’s medical team are not overly concerned with the scan results and are said to be taking a cautious approach with a bowler who – with his ability to clock 90 miles per hour – appeared back to his best across all formats on the recent tour of the Caribbean.
Chris Woakes, of Warwickshire, also remains on the sidelines ahead of next month’s one-day series against Pakistan after undergoing injections of his own blood to help boost his recovery from a long-standing knee issue.
