MMA star ‘shot dead after violent altercation with off duty police officer’

An MMA fighter has been killed following an altercation with an armed military police officer, according to reports in Brazil.

Mauro Chaulet, 34, was allegedly shot in a bar in the city of Porto Alegre after getting into a heated argument with the off-duty military man, who is said to have been carrying a loaded weapon.

Reports allege Chaulet disarmed the officer and shot him in the groin area, only to be shot in the back shortly after. It's also alleged a woman who was accompanying Chaulet was shot twice in the stomach.

As per local outlet Rádio Guaíba, Chaulet tried to flee the scene by driving away in his car, but was chased by the lawman and shot dead, after crashing his vehicle moments later.

It's claimed the officer was rushed to hospital, where he underwent an emergency operation and survived. Chaulet's female companion also survived the incident, which happened last week, after undergoing surgery.

Some reports say the altercation started when the woman accompanying Chaulet got into an argument with a woman with the military officer.

Chaulet was represented by MMA management company Team Goat Management, who released a statement following the reported incident.

"Unfortunately, today we lost another great person, victim of the brutal violence in Brazil that is repeated every day," the statement read. "You were special and will never be forgotten for us! RIP @maurochaulet"

Chaulet had 13 wins and nine losses from his 21 professional fights, with his last three bouts all ending in defeat. The most recent of which came in May 2022 in the Cage Fury Fighting Championships.
