Mark Zuckerberg channels Khabib as he accepts Elon Musk’s MMA fight proposal

Mark Zuckerberg has channelled UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov after seemingly agreeing to a cage fight with Elon Musk.

Twitter owner Musk proposed a billionaire scrap between the two social media titans earlier this month (June). The 51-year-old tech magnate said “I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb” after it emerged Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, was working on a project to rival Twitter.

Musk went on to say that he would be “up for a cage match” with the 39-year-old Meta boss.

Zuckerberg, who is trained in jiu-jitsu, has now taken up the Tesla CEO on his challenge by posting a screenshot of Musk’s tweet with the caption: “Send me location.”

Confirmation of an MMA clash between two of the richest people on the planet has unsurprisingly sent shockwaves through the internet. But UFC fans were even more stunned that Zuckerberg coined former undefeated champion Khabib’s famous catchphrase used against Conor McGregor before defeating him at UFC 229.

One Twitter user wrote: “Mark Zuckerberg thinks he’s Khabib,” while another tweeted: “Zuckerberg pulling a Khabib.”

A third tweeted: “Zuckerberg quoting Khabib was not on my 2023 bingo card,” while a fourth added: “Zuckerberg now channelling his inner Khabib.”

Musk has since doubled down by tweeting: “I’ll fight Mark Zuckerberg with one hand.”

The South African-born businessman has trained in Kyokushin karate, taekwondo, judo and briefly Brazilian jiu-jitsu at various points in his life. He also showed Joe Rogan a photo of himself fighting a sumo wrestler during his appearance on his podcast.

But the contest may not be as straightforward as Musk believes, with Zuckerberg having competed in his first jiu-jitsu tournament in May. Having trained with UFC prospects in the build-up, Zuckerberg flaunted his medals on his Instagram in the aftermath.

“Maybe to some degree, your ability to keep doing interesting things is your willingness to be embarrassed again and go back to step one and start as a beginner, and get your a** kicked,” Zuckerberg said on a podcast earlier this year.

The pair are likely to splash huge sums on the best training if the fight does end up taking place, in what will surely be a clash for the ages.
