Conor McGregor teases UFC return date with Michael Chandler fight
Peter Queally talks Conor McGregor’s UFC comeback
Conor McGregor has teased a UFC comeback for this summer with the Notorious One set to throw down with Ultimate Fighter rival coach Michael Chandler. The Irishman hasn’t fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
During his time away from the octagon, McGregor has worked hard on his road to recovery while also preparing for his on-screen film debut. McGregor was working on a Road House remake with Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal.
But he is now focused on returning to the UFC, filming a season of The Ultimate Fighter as a coach, where he’s rivalling lightweight veteran Chandler. And although a concrete return date is yet to be set in stone, with McGregor yet to enter the USADA anti-doping pool, the 34-year-old dropped a hint following the conclusion of Gervonta Davis’ win over Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas.
McGregor hit a casino and mingled with fans. He was asked when he expects to make his highly anticipated return to the octagon. “Some time end of summer,” McGregor responded.
McGregor is confident that he will “slice” through Chandler when the time comes. “I think I’m going slice through him,” the former double champ said earlier this year.
“I think I’m a little too slicy for him, more than anyone else he’s fought. A little too snappy and whippy and I think I’ll slice through him.”

He also gave some champion’s advice to loser Garcia, who was handed his first professional boxing loss at the hands of rival Davis. McGregor was filmed enthusiastically talking to Garcia, insisting that he’s still the future of boxing, and that he wants to see a rematch without a rehydration clause.
He said: “He’s 1-0 on you, you two are the biggest names in the division. I want to see it again. I wanna see it again now, and I wanna see it with no rehydration clause, seriously. You know what I mean? Mate, all the respect in the world to you, you’re the future. The future is there, I’ll be watching you all the way. All the best, God bless.”
