Novak Djokovic private text message leaves NBA star humming with excitement

Novak Djokovic jokes about his age at the Australian Open

Novak Djokovic’s private text message to Nikola Jokic left the NBA star humming with excitement – stating that it was ‘for real’. The Denver Nuggets talisman has the chance to lead his side to a first NBA Championship on Monday night, but it was a text message from Djokovic that got him excited.

Denver currently have a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat and six-foot 11 inches tall centre Jokic has been key to their success. The Serbian basketball star has been the NBA most valuable player for the last two consecutive seasons and is on the verge of winning his first NBA Championship.

Despite Jokic’s stardom he was left humming with excitement after receiving a text from fellow Serbian star Djokovic. He said: “He text me, for real. He’s amazing of course in his sport and he his making history. He is probably going to go down as one of the best ever, if not the best ever.

“He has a nice opportunity to win another one. He is just an amazing sport and having him as a countryman to represent us in the world, I think it’s a great honour and I think the people of Serbia are really happy that we have him as our countryman.”

Jokic made history in the third match against Miami Heat when he and Jamal Murray became the first team-mates to record 30-point triple-doubles in an NBA Finals. Jokic finished with 32 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists in the match – leaving coach Michael Malone applauding his success.

Meanwhile, Djokovic has a chance to make history in Sunday’s French Open final when he meets Norwegian younster Ruud in the French Open final. The world No 3 is bidding to become the first man to win 23 major singles titles – he currently shares the record with Rafael Nadal.

Ruud will be searching for his first Grand Slam crown after losing in the final of last year’s US and French Open tournaments. In the semi-final Ruud beat Alexander Zverev in straight sets – who believes that Djokovic might suffer from nerves in the final.

“I think it couldn’t be better, to be honest,” Zverev said. “Novak is one of the best players in the world, that’s for sure, but when you’re on the brink of history I think that adds a little bit of pressure.”
