Nick Kyrgios laughs off being savagely roasted by Sacha Baron Cohen

It was a classic case of grumpy Nick Kyrgios in the early stages of his first round Australian Open match but the smile was back on his face by the time he’d cruised to a straight sets win.

The Aussie’s eventful victory over Portugal’s Frederico Ferreira Silva on Monday night was dominated by him yelling at a member of his entourage to kick their girlfriend out of his player’s box after less than three games.

Thankfully that dummy spit — and the temper tantrums that followed — didn’t affect Kyrgios’ performance as he found his range on serve to book his spot in the second round.

In his post-match interview, Kyrgios was asked about his recent work with comedian and actor Sacha Baron Cohen, of Borat fame, who took on another alter ego of The Rogue Umpire as the pair filmed a commercial for Uber Eats that will be aired during the grand slam.

During the commercial, Baron Cohen — sporting a blonde wig and handle bar moustache — rips into Kyrgios with one-liners including fictional violations such as “stating the obvious”, “unnecessary sweat”, “unfair use of antiperspirants” and “inappropriate used of the word ‘mate’.”

At one point, The Rogue Umpire from Dandenong East slams Kyrgios for a “visible panty line violation”, while warning the tennis star: “This is not the Melbourne Cup.”

When Kyrgios argues, “Do you even know the rules?” The Rogue Umpire responds: “I am the rules. I am the umpire. Mate.”

Speaking about the experience after beating Ferreira Silva, Kyrgios said: “He was hilarious. I just thought he was Borat the whole time, literally.

“It was definitely one of my favourite experiences.

“I saw it today for the first time, the little snippet on Instagram. It was fun. You guys should check it out.

“He was nuts. It was four hours straight, he was saying outrageous things. It was pretty funny. It was a lot of fun.”
