Nick Kyrgios cruised into the second round of the Australian Open with a 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory over Frederico Ferreira Silva on Monday, but he wasn’t entirely comfortable.

The 25-year-old, who is yet to reach a major semi-final, is one of the most recognisable faces on the tour due to his outspoken nature and feud with Novak Djokovic.

Kyrgios became only the third player to beat each of Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal the first time he played each of them, and he showed glimpses of his ability against Silva.

However, there were some signs that the bad-tempered nature of the Australian will be sticking around, with more than one outburst during the game.

Kyrgios shouted to a member of his team: “Tell your girlfriend to get out of my box.”

Although it is not certain who the demand was aimed at, his brother Christos was seen in the box before the match against Silva had begun.

“Are you awake? You’re saying one thing for two games,” Kyrgios later saidto himself.

He said of his next opponent Ugo Humbert after the match: “An amazing player, one of the most improved players in the last year.”

Before adding: “It was special. Obviously very strange here last year. It was amazing to have you guys here, it felt normal to be honest.

“You guys were going nuts and it was good to see, so hopefully we can continue it.
