Novak Djokovic’s coach has cast doubt over whether the world No 7 will play the upcoming Paris Masters, where he is the defending champion. Djokovic has just two events left in his 2022 schedule including the final Masters 1000 of the year but Goran Ivanisevic claimed that the Serb’s participation wasn’t set in stone.

Djokovic’s season has been unlike any other, with the 35-year-old unable to play several tournaments as a result of his unvaccinated status. The 21-time Grand Slam champion has missed the Australian Open, US Open and the Masters events in Indian Wells, Miami, Canada and Cincinnati, leaving him with a drastically reduced schedule.

The Serb recently returned from three months on the sidelines after being unable to compete in the North American hard-court swing and has won every match since, lifting the titles in Tel Aviv and Astana while dropping just one set across the two tournaments. And he has just two more left on his schedule before the end of the year – the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals.

But it appears that Djokovic’s fans may have just one last chance to see the 90-time title winner in action this year as his coach revealed that his participation in Paris-Bercy was uncertain. Speaking to Jutarnji list, Ivanisevic said: “It is clear that he will play in Turin, but the question remains whether he will go to Paris before that.”

It’s a surprising confession from Djokovic’s coach, with Paris officially listed on the Serb’s website as part of his schedule. The world No 7 is the reigning champion at the final Masters tournament of the season after defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final last year.

Djokovic also qualified for the ATP Finals with his title win in Astana. Only the eight players who have earned the most points in a single season earn a spot at the tournament but ATP rules allow for a Grand Slam champion from that year to qualify if they finish in the top 20 for points one in the same season.

And Djokovic won’t be able to play the Davis Cup Finals as Serbia failed to book a spot in the knockouts during the group stages last month with the 21-time Major winner pulling out of the squad citing “personal reasons”.

He has also signed up for a brand new exhibition event in Dubai, which will see four teams of four ATP and WTA players face off in a round-robin stage with the top two teams battling it out in the final. As well as Djokovic, Nick Kyrgios, Simona Halep and Iga Swiatek have also put their names down for the World Tennis League.
