‘World’s most beautiful footballer’ tries forgetting leg brace injury on holiday

Ana Maria Markovic has been holidaying in Italy to take her mind off her horror leg injury which is set to keep her sidelined for months.

Croatia international Markovic, who's been dubbed the world's most beautiful footballer thanks to her good looks, injured her anterior cruciate ligament earlier this month while playing for Swiss team Grasshopper Club Zurich.

She was reduced to tears as she received treatment from the medical team on the pitch. But the 23-year-old had a massive smile back on her face this week while enjoying a break away from her woes.

Markovic visited popular tourist destination Lake Como and the nearby village of Bellagio in northern Italy. She sported a leg brace which she'll be wearing for the foreseeable future, and was accompanied by her new "best friends" – a pair of crutches.

As well as taking in the gorgeous views which attract millions each year, she indulged in the local cuisine and posed for pictures across the table which were taken by her unknown travel companion.

Markovic was grinning from ear-to-ear in the featured snap of an Instagram post which she uploaded to her 2.7million followers. She appeared to be struggling getting around the cobbled, hilly streets, though.

In one of the images she was sitting down for a well earned rest in a doorway. One of her fans commented: “Get well soon fav.” Another replied: “Have a good leg recovery honey."

"The most gorgeous woman," hailed a third, while a fourth asked: "Why are you so beautiful?"

Markovic did manage to hide her brace in a figure-hugging outfit and looked to be treated to some good weather. Taking to social media after suffering her injury, she wrote: "I don't know where to start…

"Unfortunately I got injured at the last game and will now have to say goodbye to football for a long time.

"It hurts so much and still can not believe it. All who know me, know that I have a very strong personality and that I will come back even stronger. Thank you all for the support that I will need the next few months even more."

With her holiday now over, she's been back in physiotherapy today (March 28) to get her right knee mobile again.
