Lamar Jackson trade request has major impact on NFL Draft

The Indianapolis Colts have openly admitted that they are considering a move for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. It comes after the former MVP confirmed that he has handed in a trade request to move on from the team after the two parties could not agree an extension.

The Ravens will have been blindsided by Jackson’s tweet on Monday when the quarterback opened up about his future, revealing he handed in the trade request on March 2 and still wants to leave the team.

The two parties had been in talks on an extension for 18 months, but no deal has been agreed on with Jackson wanting to be paid along with the top earners in the league.

So they would not lose him on a free, the Ravens did sign him to a non-exclusive franchise tag, which means the player is still able to discuss deals with other teams.

And one team who has emerged as a landing spot for Jackson, are the Indianapolis Colts, with general manager Chris Ballard confirming their interest.

He said: “Anytime a special player is available, which he is, you’ve got to do the work.

“I’m not going to get into deep discussions on where it’s at or what we’re doing or what we might do. But what I’ll tell you is he’s a really good player, really special player. But you never know how any of this will work out.”

A move for Jackson would hugely shake up the NFL Draft, with the Colts currently holding the #4 pick, and had been projected to draft a quarterback, with Will Levis being the favourite.

Should the Colts trade for Jackson, they would assumedly give up that pick to the Ravens, who could themselves look to draft a quarterback, or trade down in order to acquire more assets, while starting Pro Bowler Tyler Huntley.
