Chelsea: Lampard sends Werner message amid goal struggles

Chelsea ended a three-game wait for a win with a 1-0 victory at Fulham over the weekend. Blues boss Frank Lampard has found himself under increasing pressure after a run of poor results. However, they now travel to face a Leicester side who will be in confident form following their 2-0 win over Southampton.

“Of course it feels good to get a win,” said Lampard.

“It has not been easy with the league form recently and you have to break the duck.

“Just because of the current form it is a bit harder, the confidence is not quite there. But we found it so I’m really pleased.

“I trust the quality of the players. There was a feeling we would get a goal, because the pressure was constant.

“It was about staying patient with our passing and I think we did.”

Leicester are sitting comfortably in the top four but with the games coming thick and fast, and in such an unpredictable season, Kasper Schmeichel says they can’t afford to look too far ahead.

The Foxes goalkeeper said: “I don’t look at the table.”

It doesn’t mean anything at this stage. We’ll see when it comes to the business end,” he said.

“It’s a big couple of weeks for the club. It was important to start with three points.

“The league’s so tight that six points can be the difference between first or second and seventh or eighth.”
