Wealdstone FC in mourning as ‘fantastically gifted’ 14-year-old footballer dies

Wealdstone FC is mourning the loss of a 14-year-old academy star following his tragic death.

Teddy Disson-Meade, who was described as a "fantastically gifted" player with a bright future, passed away earlier this week, leaving his team-mates and coaches in shock and sadness.

In a statement released on social media on Friday afternoon (April 28), the club said there will be a minute's silence before the senior team's National League clash with Southend on Saturday (April 29) and players will wear "t-shirts in Teddy's memory" during the warm up.

"It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce that Wealdstone Youth U14 Reds player Teddy Disson-Meade sadly passed away earlier this week," the statement read.

"Teddy was a fantastically gifted player but more importantly a popular and valued member of our U14 group, he will be greatly missed by all his friends here at the club.

"Our thoughts go out to his parents Sinead and Ricky at this time and of course to all his friends and family."

Tributes have been pouring in on social media since the news broke. One Twitter user wrote: "My son was involved against your academy this week, can’t even begin to imagine how the parents/family/club are feeling. So young.

Another said: "Terribly sad news. Thoughts with Teddy's family at this time. Godspeed young man," while a third suggested a touching tribute, writing: "Everyone let’s get a clap going on the 14th minute tomorrow."

Southend's official Twitter account also responded to the post to confirm that a minute's silence will observed before Saturday's game.

It comes just a few days after a senior Wealdstone player was taken to hospital after collapsing on the verge of full-time during the club's 3-0 win over Solihull Moors. He was later given the all-clear and discharged.
