Tottenham Hotspur are facing a big issue in the January transfer market after Tanguy Ndombele’s spectacular strop in Sunday’s FA Cup win over Morecambe. Ndombele sulked as he walked off the pitch and headed straight down the tunnel.

Supporters lost patience with Ndombele as Spurs laboured to victory over League 1 Morecambe on Sunday.

Antonio Conte replaced the ineffective midfielder for Oliver Skipp with Spurs trailing, before a late rally with goals from Harry Winks, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane sealing a place in the fourth round.

But Ndombele’s reaction to his substitution was telling, as he trudged off slowly despite Conte’s side chasing an equaliser.

He was booed by a section of the fanbase and proceeded to walk down the tunnel before later returning to the bench to witness the late turnaround.

Ndombele became Spurs’ record signing over two years ago but it now looks increasingly likely that he will be sold without ever living up to that price tag.

He continues to be linked with a move away this month after failing to secure his exit in the summer window.

However, according to The Athletic, Conte is facing a transfer issue with the 25-year-old.

Ndombele is said to earn £200,000 per-week in wages and it will prove difficult to find a club who can match that outlay on a player who is underperforming.

The player’s contract does not expire until 2025 and a loan deal could be more likely if a club is found that can pay a large chunk of his wages.

It is added that Ndombele remains hopeful of an exit, and even has ambitions of playing for a big Champions League club.

But as of yet, and perhaps unsurprisingly, there has been no concrete interest in the French international.

Spurs boss Conte suggested after the Morecambe victory that Ndombele has the responsibility on the pitch to appease the fans who have become so disgruntled with him.

“You have to be good to try to change your opinion,” Conte said.

“If someone is disappointed with you. It’s normal.

“I was a player and it happened sometimes to me that someone was unhappy with my performance. This is our life. I repeat, it’s OK. We have to continue to work and try to be better next time.

“We have to know very well that if we perform well, the fans are happy. If you don’t perform well, the fans are not happy.

“This is football. If we think the fans have to be happy any time, if you win or lose, I think that’s not right.

“Me, for sure, when I don’t win, I’m not happy, I am upset and I think that is OK.”
