Fulham fans are up in arms after Ivan Toney avoided a red card before going to score in their 3-2 defeat to Brentford.

The Bees striker, who was recently charged with series of alleged betting infractions, netted a second half penalty to put his side in control of the tie.

Last month, he admitted most of the charges but disputed others, and as such has been allowed to keep playing until the investigation is completed – much to the frustration of Fulham supporters on social media.

To rub salt in the wounds, Toney escaped a red card at the end of the first half after catching Fulham's Sasa Lukic on the follow-through of a stiff tackle.

The challenge looked accidental but Cottagers supporters were nonetheless angered that he was allowed to stay on the pitch, particularly given what was to come.

"Absolutely criminal that Toney has been allowed to stay on there," one fan posted. A second agreed, saying: "100% we've been mugged over here."

After he scored from the spot, a number of Fulham fans leaped back on to social media to vent their fury. "Toney shouldn't even be playing," one fan fumed, while another tweeted: "No way Toney should be even allowed on the pitch ffs."

Fulham however had their fair share of luck too, with Lukic somehow escaping a second yellow card after tripping Yoane Wissa on the half-way line during a counter-attack.

Earlier in the night, Ethan Pinnock had given Brentford the lead, but the hosts were pegged back by a cracking Manor Solomon free-kick just before half-time. After the break, Toney restored the home side's lead before Mathias Jensen completed the rout with five minutes to play, while Carlos Vinicius grabbed a late consolation goal for the visitors.
