Fans on social media have poked fun at the legacy Ralph Hasenhuttl will leave behind at Southampton after he was sacked by the club on Monday.

Southampton made the decision to part ways with Hasenhuttl after their 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

They felt it was the right time to part ways with the Austrian manager as the Saints are sitting in 18th place having won just once in their last nine games.

The majority of fans felt it was the right decision to sack Hasenhuttl. However, some criticised Southampton for cutting ties with the 55-year-old.

Southampton confirmed the sacking of Hasenhuttl in a statement on Monday morning

Some fans mocked Hasenhuttl on social media in response to the club’s announcement.

One social media user said: ‘Only manager to get 2 9-0 defeats in 2 seasons, warra legacy,’ with two clapping hands emojis.

Another said: ‘Thanks for the 9-0s ralph mate, streets will never forget’, while one wrote: ‘More losses than wins surprised he wasn’t gone before.’

Others felt it was the right decision but felt sorry for the way in which Hasenhuttl’s tenure came to an end.

One fan wrote: ‘Had to happen, a shame it ended on a sour note. Though there were more than enough lows, he saved us when we were struggling and delivered a lot of good memories as well. Still wish him all the best though.’

Others felt Hasenhuttl had outstayed his welcome at the club. One fan said: ‘Ralph Hasenhuttl definitely can’t believe his luck having lasted nearly 2 years in the Southampton job after losing 9-0 for the second time! It’s over 3 years since he did it for the first time! Fair play Ralph, you’ve hung on longer than anyone expected.’

Another added: ‘Hasenhuttl’s finally gone. But it’s to late, he’s ruined Ward-Prowse’s World Cup hopes. Good riddance, try not to concede 9 in you next job pal.’

Some fans felt Hasenhuttl was the ‘right manager at the wrong time’, while others said they felt sorry for the 55-year-old and criticised Southampton for how they treated the Austrian manager.

One fan wrote: ‘Struggling with the logic at #SaintsFC by sacking Hasenhuttl. Clearly selling club. Have gone for youth this year. They have no striker capable of 15 plus goals. Manager needs time for youth to work. This is really owners pacifying the fans by blaming the manager.’

Another added: ‘Don’t really understand the sacking of Hasenhuttl. He’s a streaky manager who has come back before from two 9-0 thrashings. They are only one win from mid table in a very tight division. Not sure what Saints expect.’

One Twitter user went on to add: ‘Poor decision for me. Ralph Hasenhuttl is a quality football manager. He’s worked on a low budget and worked miracles in my opinion.’

Another wrote: ‘Hasenhuttl was the right manager at the wrong time for us If he walks into #SaintsFC a year ago, combining his original energy/optimism with new owners & big investment in youth, you feel it’d have almost been perfect But the ££ restraints & bad results had clearly jaded him.’

While one fan said: ‘Southampton sacks Ralph Hasenhuttl while Leceister kept Brendan Rogers. Football business is too ruthless and unfair.’ Another agreed, writing: ‘Glad they put Hasenhuttl out of his misery but still a disgraceful way to treat him.’

Some supporters tried to guess who will succeed at the Southampton Hasenhuttl. Several fans named Sam Allardyce and some suggested Mauricio Pochettino could return.

One fan wrote: ‘No surprise here, with an interesting recruitment and a half decent squad, Hasenhuttl was expected to do more. Real question now is this: who’s the next manager and why is it Sam Allardyce? Comeback from Poch?’.

One fan joked: ‘Dream Appointment – Mauricio Pochettino Banter Appointment – Nathan Jones Craziest Ride Appointment – Marcelo Gallardo Sensible Appointment – Thomas Frank Most Saintsy Appointment – German Third Division Manager that no one has heard of.’

While others said: ‘Bring home Poch.’
