Sam Allardyce’s Guardiola and Klopp comparison quickly comes back to bite him

Sam Allardyce's bizarre comments about Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have well and truly come back to bite him on the bum following Leeds' relegation.

After arriving at Elland Road at the start of the month, the former England boss insisted "there's nobody ahead of me, in football terms … and in terms of knowledge," notably citing Guardiola, Klopp and Mikel Arteta as managerial compeers.

The comments, Allardyce later admitted, were designed to deflect pressure away from his confidence-sapped players, but after three defeats and a draw from his four games in charge, and a big fat relegation as garnish, it's fair to say it probably didn't have the desired effect.

Fans wasted little time ripping into the 68-year-old when footage of his controversial remarks re-emerged on social media following their 4-1 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, with one user branding him "the most deluded manager in the Premier League".

"Big Sam proving what everybody has known for 10 years, he's an idiot," one supporter tweeted.

"Allardyce has got to be the most deluded manager in the Premier League," another wrote, while a third commented: "I know he was just deflecting attention from his players but it doesn't make this any less funny in hindsight."

Will Sam Allardyce ever manage in the Premier League again? Let us know in the comments section below.

Prior to replacing Javi Gracia a few weeks ago, Allardyce had been out of a job since leaving West Brom after their relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2021/22 season, having been drafted in mid-season following Slaven Bilic's sacking.

Since May 2015, Allardyce has taken charge of just 112 matches, having spent brief stints at Everton, Crystal Palace, Sunderland and England, where he was infamously dismissed following allegations of malpractice after just one game.
