Saint-Maximin’s cheeky transfer request to Fabrizio Romano about Lucas Digne
Newcastle United have finally flexed their humongous financial muscles.
Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier became the first player to be signed under the new ownership at St James’ Park, when he sealed a £12million move from the reigning La Liga champions.
But the former Tottenham Hotspur star will likely be the first of many to arrive, as Newcastle’s new owners are the richest in the Premier League by a considerable amount.
Their newly-acquired wealth has resulted in the club being linked with a plethora of top stars and players from all around Europe.
And Magpies star man Allan Saint-Maximin wanted to make absolutely sure about the club's chances of signing Everton defender Lucas Digne, by cheekily reaching out to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
Romano had just informed his 6.2m followers on Twitter that Digne will depart the Toffees, but not for Newcastle.
“Lucas Digne will leave Everton, never been in doubt,” he tweeted.
“Three Premier League clubs interested, next week will be key – Chelsea are still waiting to decide on LB situation.

“Again, Digne will not join Newcastle. No way – and Lille are still hoping to keep Sven Botman.”
While Romano appeared to be very sure in his words, Saint-Maximin gently urged the transfer insider to perhaps double check his sources.
“Ok Fabrizio just to clarify, is Lucas Digne going to join Newcastle," Saint-Maximin tweeted in response to the transfer guru's news.
While Saint-Maximin’s tongue in cheek joke amused many, Newcastle are no laughing stock in the transfer window.
Howe’s man have been linked with audacious moves Lille defender Sven Botman and Seville centre-half Diego Carlos.
A new defence appears to be at the top of Howe’s wish-list, with his Newcastle side still leaking goals for fun.
