Sir Alex Ferguson has already started his "mind games" as Wrexham are set to face Manchester United.

Wrexham's Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, announced they would be facing the Red Devils in the USA over the summer. However, it was Sir Alex who stole the show, with his stone-faced expressions on a video call.

Reynolds told McElhenney that Ferguson is famous for his mind games, as the legendary boss refused to answer any of the pair's questions. However, it was then revealed they were on mute when the cameras cut inside Sir Alex's office.

"Ryan he's way past that part of his career, plus we're playing a friendly match," McElhenney told Reynolds in the sketch – after Reynolds had expressed his worry over Sir Alex being a "master intimidator".

As the sketch goes on the pair, unaware they're on mute, begin to suspect the Scotsman's playing "mind games" when he doesn't respond to their questions. Reynolds even jokes he's "living in our heads rent-free" as the silence continues.

Reynolds then panics and hangs up the call, before cameras cut to Sir Alex, who is asked how the meeting went by his assistant: "They were on mute, never heard a thing!"

The two sides will meet on 25 July at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California.

However, with the clash coming early in pre-season, the Red Devils are expected to field a younger side for the fixture. While it will be Wrexham's first time stateside when they jet across the Atlantic in the summer – and they're reportedly in talks with Chelsea for a match.

Wrexham's popularity in the US has skyrocketed thanks to their hit series 'Welcome to Wrexham', which documents the non-league sides' Hollywood owners.

The Red Dragons' feet will have to remain firmly planted on the ground in the meantime – as they focus on a return to the football league for the first time since 2008.

Phil Parkinson's side are currently three points clear of Notts County, who are also looking to put an end to their long stint in the footballing wilderness.
