Ryan Mason makes Harry Kane request after Tottenham star’s Pochettino admission

I am ready – new boss Ryan Mason demands reaction from sorry Spurs

Ryan Mason has told Harry Kane that Tottenham Hotspur need him to stay as a central figure in helping the club’s values return. The request follows the star striker’s admission that Spurs have lost their way since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure in 2019.

Kane is strongly linked with a summer move away after another trophy-less season, just one year before his contract in north London expires.

And at the end of April, he admitted he felt Tottenham had lost key values that helped garner success during Pochettino’s five-year tenure.

He told Sky Sports: “I feel like there were some values at that time and some culture that really made us achieve the things we did.

“So maybe we’ve lost parts of that over the last few years, and it’s about looking back at that and seeing the good things we can take from that and trying to implement that in the future.”

Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa, Mason agreed with Kane’s honest assessment.

However, he suggested the No 10 needed to stay at the club to help make that happen.

“It’s important, vital and crucial that everyone here is pulling in the same direction and wants the same things,” Mason told reporters.

“We’re talking about a massive football club here. I agree with him, and I think he’s right.

“I’m happy he said it. He’s one of the people I want to drive it because of his stature at this football club.”

A defeat at Villa Park would put Tottenham’s hopes for European football next season in severe jeopardy.

Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion are well-placed to at least finish in the Europa League spots – given the Seagulls trail Spurs by just two points with as many games in hand.

Unai Emery’s side are also in contention and would move level with the Lilywhites with three points, putting Mason and Co at risk of dropping below seventh, the Europa Conference League position.

Tottenham host Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before travelling to Elland Road to face relegation battlers Leeds United on the final day.
