Ronaldo’s superstition involving personalised shin pads leaves fans baffled
Cristiano Ronaldo's superstition has had fans baffled after he was spotted kissing his shin pads on the bench.
Ralf Rangnick named the Manchester United star on the bench as they faced Burnley at Turf Moor, with Edinson Cavani preferred.
But the scores drawn at 1-1 and the Uruguayan having little impact, it was not long before the Red Devils coach turned to the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
And while putting on Ronaldo to try land all three points is hardly shocking news, BT Sport cameras picked up the forward in an unusual act.
After the 37-year-old's warm-up, he returned to the bench to get ready to come on – including putting his shin pads on.
Pictured on them was his signature CR7 tag as well as a big self-portrait and his children.
The Portugal international appeared to kiss each face before putting them on and making his way to the touchline to replace Cavani.
But it has left fans puzzled over his superstitious ways with one saying: "Ronaldo really got himself on his shin pads."
And another said: "Ronaldo lipsing his shinpads with a picture of himself on, fairs."
A third quipped: "Ronaldo kissing his shinpads with his face on is such a Ronaldo thing."
While this fan said: "This is PEAK Ronaldo."
"Ronaldo mate you’re 37…" another supporter tweeted.
And this fan said: "Bro does Ronaldo have his own photo on his shinpads this guy is crazy."
Meanwhile, Rangnick did explain why he decided to drop Ronaldo to the bench in a dig at his pressing ability.

After failing to score against Burnley, Ronaldo is now on his worst goal drought since 2010.
Rangnick added: "I am not worried about Cristiano not getting enough goals, we have a couple of games coming up and we will need him to start with."
