Richarlison added insult to injury after scoring against Nottingham Forest by shushing the home fans – little over a year on from his showboating controversy.

The Brazilian leaped highest to head home a Dejan Kulusevski cross to give Tottenham the lead right on half-time at the City Ground. Forest fans had been giving him stick all evening, which is little surprise given the way he disrespectfully performed keepie-uppies during the closing stages of Spurs' 2-0 win in the stadium in August last year.

Richarlison didn't seem to mind the abuse, and he made the home fans pay by netting his fourth Premier League goal of the season and celebrating passionately at the side of the pitch. There was a mixed response to his antics on social media, with some labelling him "arrogant" and others branding him "a legend".

"World class s***housery from Richarlison love it," one X user wrote. Another agreed, writing: "Can't help but love that from Richarlison, shushing the fans after showboating last season what a legend."

However, a detractor argued: "No need for such a d***headed celebration. I know the fans have been giving him grief but he did juggle the ball at the City Ground last year. Deserves it." A second critic said: "Richarlison is an arrogant little pr*ck and that cocky celebration proves it."

Kulisevski made it 2-0 mid-way through the second half after capitalising on Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner's poor clearance and blasting the ball past the American from close range. A win for Ange Postecoglou's men will see them move level on points with fourth-placed Manchester City, though the Citizens will move clear again if they pick up any points against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Richarlison was widely condemned for his showboating antics against Forest last year. Jamie Carragher, who was on punditry duty for the game, branded him "disrespectful" and claimed he was "wound up" by his stunt. Forest manager Steve Cooper said his showboating "wouldn't be accepted" in the Forest dressing room.
