President Biden has told the USA soccer team that they ‘made us proud’ after a 3-1 defeat by Holland knocked them out the World Cup in Qatar.
Talking to Twitter shortly after the final whistle was blown in the game, Biden said: ‘Fellas, you made us proud. We get up and keep going. Here’s to a bright future and 2026 back here at home.’
USA fell behind to Holland after only 10 minutes through a Memphis Depay goal and Daley Blind doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime.
Haji Wright got one back for USA but hope of a comeback lasted only five minutes before Denzel Dumfries made it safe for Holland.

President Biden tweeted of his pride at how the team had performed in the World Cup
Biden has been an avid supporter of the US team. Earlier on Saturday, he appeared in a video where captain Tyler Adams jokingly passed the ball 7,000 miles from Qatar to the White House.
Wearing his USA scarf, Biden catches the pass and says: ‘It’s called soccer. Go USA! You guys are going to do it!’.
Biden tweeted the video out with the caption: ‘Good kick, Tyler Adams. Let’s go, USMNT!’.
He also sent the USA team a message before the tournament began in Qatar.

He spoke to coach Gregg Berhalter and his team over the phone and said: ‘You guys, I know you’re the underdog.
‘But I tell you what man, you got some of the best players in the world on your team and you’re representing this country and I know you’re gonna play your hearts out. So lets go shock ’em all.
‘Keep trusting in one another play as hard as you can and you know for you and your families, your teammates and the whole country is rooting for you.’
