Pompey John ‘thought he was going to die’ after being hit over head with bottle

Iconic Portsmouth fan Pompey John admitted he thought his life was in danger when he was assaulted in a nightclub.

The South Coast fan, whose real name is John Westwood, may be one of the most famous supporters in the whole of British football. He was always seen in the stands of Fratton Park, dressed head to toe in Pompey blue, while also wearing a long wig and giant top hat.

He became somewhat of a hero amongst his own fan base and a known figure to rival fans. Unfortunately, it was his celebrity which saw him be brutally assaulted.
