Pochettino ‘in early talks’ with Tottenham over sensation return as manager

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is in 'early talks' with Tottenham Hotspur over a sensational return to North London – after he was axed by his former side.

The Argentine was relieved of duties in November 2019, just six months after he guided Spurs to their first Champions League final.

However, after a poor start to the 18/19 season, Poch was given his marching orders to be replaced by Jose Mourinho – who also failed to deliver silverware to North London.

And now, 18-months after he last appeared on the touchline for Spurs, The Athletic are reporting Poch could be set for a return.

Mourinho was sacked five weeks ago, and Daniel Levy has since been scrambling for his replacement.

Erik ten Hag, the man responsible for Ajax's European odyssey, Belgium’s Roberto Martinez, and Brighton’s Graham Potter were all considered for the role.

However, the choice of Spurs' fans will be the eternally popular Pochettino.

Since leaving Tottenham, Pochettino, took the reigns at PSG, and he has a year left on his contract in the French capital, however, Poch has failed to win Ligue 1 or the Champions League this season.

Levy recently noted in the Tottenham program that Spurs have lost their identity as a club: “As a Club we have been so focused on delivering the stadium and dealing with the impact of the pandemic, that I feel we lost sight of some key priorities and what’s truly in our DNA.

“The new stadium is pivotal to generating revenues to invest in the squad. Every single penny generated gets re-invested back into our Club.

“We are absolutely clear that central to our ambitions is a successful football team – it is what we all crave.

"We have come close over the last seven seasons and everyone’s focus is on a return to regular Champions League participation and competing for honours."

A return of Poch could be the step Levy is looking to take to regain Tottenham's identity.
