Ozil's wife made remarkable offer as part of move from Arsenal to Fenerbahce
Mesut Ozil’s wife, Amine Gulse, has been promised involvement in a new TV programme as part of a deal to take her husband from Arsenal to Fenerbahce.
Ozil looks set to finally leave Arsenal this month, after being frozen out at the club and not making a single appearance yet this season.
His contract expires in the summer, but the Gunners are keen to get rid of the German before the end of the January transfer window and get his huge £350,000-a-week wages off their books.
This salary has been the reason it has been so difficult to move Ozil on, though, with very few clubs willing and/or able to fund such vast wages for the 32-year-old, who has not shown his best form for a long time.
Fenerbahce are trying to put a package together to attract Ozil to Turkey, where he has family roots and where his wife is from.
Football.London report that Turkish TV personality Acun Ilicali, who is a friend of the couple, is trying to help conclude the deal, offering to fund part of Ozil’s salary and assure Gulse that a programme will be made on a ‘new digital platform.’
Ozil is clearly tempted by a move to Istanbul, posting a picture of himself there on Instagram on Wednesday with the caption: ‘This city.’
Manager of the Turkish side, Erol Bulut, commented on the mooted move, saying: ‘Mesut Ozil’s situation will become clear in the coming days.
‘Mesut’s name is very common. It is not possible for me to make a comment before he comes.’
The former Real Madrid and Werder Bremen star has other options available to him, with interest from America, Italy and Qatar reportedly made clear to him.
Arsenal are keen to see the back of him, but also want to get a deal that suits them.
Manager Mikel Arteta said on Wednesday: ‘I don’t know what is going to happen. Obviously now he’s free to negotiate with other clubs.
‘We will discuss internally what the best situation for him is for the near future, obviously with the player and the agent too, and try to find the best solution for everyone.’
