Newcastle star Jacob Murphy ‘sends Hugo Lloris into retirement’

Fans joked that Jacob Murphy had sent Hugo Lloris into retirement after Newcastle stormed into an incredible lead against Tottenham. Versatile star Murphy scored an early brace to help the Magpies bag five goals before the 20-minute mark.

Murphy opened the scoring inside the first two minutes before Joelinton added a second four minutes later. The former Norwich winger then made it three with a stunning long-range strike in the ninth minute.

Murphy received the ball 35 yards from goal and space opened up, allowing him to take a few strides forward. The 28-year-old then let fly with a thumping strike.

The ball nestled in the bottom corner and Murphy’s exasperated expression told the story of an incredible 10 minutes. Lloris was rooted to the spot as he watched the ball fly into the net.

Fans took aim at the Frenchman for his horror first-half display. “This Hugo Lloris should retire already please, what is this Horrendous display,” @donad_lee tweeted, alongside several hysterical laughter emojis.

@Kwenaofficial had similar thoughts. They wrote: “Hugo Lloris must just retire.”

Lloris remained the main target for criticism on social media, but other Spurs players received flak, too. “Hugo Lloris needs to go. Cristian Romero is a poor footballer, not sure how he escapes criticism. Somehow even frauded his way into the Team of the Season nominations!” @_Muhydeen_ wrote, laying into the Argentine defender Romero as well as Lloris.”

Others were keen to defend Lloris. @berserk_lula said: “People blaming Lloris cmon get a grip and open your eyes.”

Newcastle star Alexander Isak added two more goals to help Newcastle into an incredible 5-0 lead after just 21 minutes. The Swedish attacker fired low through Lloris for the fifth, leading to further criticism of the shot-stopper.

Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith said: “It is difficult to believe what we’re seeing. Hugo Lloris beaten easily yet again. Tottenham have imploded, they have totally lost it. What does Harry Kane think about this?

“My word, there aren’t many games that pan out like this, I cannot remember one between two teams so close in the league and one so totally outclassed. It’s incredible to watch. Nobody ever gets tight in a Tottenham shirt and again, for Hugo Lloris to be beaten from that angle, it shouldn’t happen.

“As well as Isak hits it, it shouldn’t happen. My word. What does this game finish up as? Five nil after 20 minutes.”
