Neville names two problem positions at Man Utd they must fix in transfer window

Gary Neville has named the two positions that Manchester United should fix in the transfer window.

It comes as the Red Devils up their efforts to bring in players this summer with several already on their wish list.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to strengthen his squad with a number of targets being eyed.

Jadon Sancho appears to be nearing closer by the day after a failed summer transfer last year but negotiations are on over a potential £85m move.

And there are also deals planned for the likes of Raphael Varane, Declan Rice and Harry Kane – though whether United can sign them all remains to be seen.

But as Old Trafford officials look to progress this summer, club legend Neville has told them to fix two problematic positions as soon as possible.

He said: "They definitely need a centre-back to go with Harry Maguire.

"Although I think the back four has done well, I think the defence has done well but they’re at an absolute maximum where they are.

"I think Aaron Wan-Bissaka is improving weekly and is getting better. I think if Luke Shaw can stay fit he’s the best and always has been in terms of talent.

"With Harry Maguire they’ve got someone who is incredibly reliable and can lead the team, I just think that another centre back comes in and completes that back four.

Who should United sign in the transfer window this summer? Comment below.

"It’s a risk because I think Maguire and Lindelof work really well but it’s a risk you have to take to get to the next level.

"If you look at Dias, Van Dijk, Harry Maguire they’re kingpins in the centre of defence but they all have good partners as well, and I think United need another one in there.

"Up front is an issue. Over the last few years, we’ve never had a fixed right-winger, I think left’s okay with Marcus Rashford. You could argue is Mason Greenwood a right-winger?

"That’s the question is he a right winger or is he a centre forward? If he’s a centre-forward in the long term, Manchester United need a right-winger. If Mason Greenwood is a right-winger, they need a centre-forward.”
