Manchester United have been told they need to up their offer if they’re to sign Jadon Sancho this summer. The Red Devils have reignited interest in their top target from 2020 by tabling an opening bid that has been rejected by Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga club held firm a year ago when they slapped a £108million valuation on the England international.

United were not willing to comply despite testing the waters with a bid of £90m in October.

However, that was rejected as the Old Trafford hierarchy were left licking their wounds as they walked away from the table.

Sancho wants the move and has made no secret of that during discussions with his club.

Personal terms are not thought to be a problem given that this was a deal that was expected to happen before the start of last season.

According to BBC Sport, United’s opening offer of £67million has been rejected by Dortmund today.

United were instead told they need to raise their offer to £77m and in addition to that, they must present a shorter payment plan than five years – what is currently on the table.

Sancho’s value has dipped in the aftermath of a challenging season, that saw Dortmund finish third.

The 21-year-old managed eight Bundesliga goals last season, nine less than the 17 he scored in 2019/20.

Furthermore, Sancho only provided 11 assists in 26 matches, five less than the previous season.

As it stands, Sancho has just two years remaining on his current Borussia Dortmund contract.

United are said to be willing to offer Sancho a five-year contract that will run until 2026.

That has allegedly already been agreed between the club and the player’s representatives.

All that remains – as was the case last season – is for United to strike a deal with Dortmund.

In the meantime, Sancho remains focused on the European Championship with England.

Gareth Southgate has made it clear that he does not want transfer sagas distracting the Three Lions camp.

He did confess that he would be unable to prevent players from discussing their future behind the scenes during downtime away from training and matches.
