Napoli fans storm pitch and pinch players’ shorts as club finally win Serie A

Napoli fans marked finally winning their third Serie A title by invading the pitch and stealing players’ shorts.

A 1-1 draw at Udinese was enough to ensure the runaway leaders could not be caught. Appropriately, it was the prolific Victor Osimhen who scored the second half equaliser.

Neither side could find a winner but a point was all Luciano Spalletti's side needed to clinch the club's first title in 33 years, since the heady days of Diego Maradona. The result sparked scenes of joy across Naples with fireworks going off and horns being sounded in celebration within seconds of the final whistle in Udin.

Thousands of fans also made the long trip to the north-east of Italy to witness history being made. Many of them stormed the pitch at the Stadio Friuli to mob their heroes.

A few even managed to grab some souvenirs, including the shorts of players, with some being stripped to their pants. However, the scenes also saw the trophy lift delayed.

One observer noted: “Napoli fans are mental, invaded trophy celebration and the cup was taken away by security, also trying to steal Cavani and Lavezzis shorts.” Another asked: “Why have I just seen videos of Napoli fans stealing players’ shorts.”

A third said: “Napoli fans are proving once again that they are idiots. Let the players celebrate instead of storming onto the pitch and asking for shirts, shorts and selfies.”

A fourth added: WNapoli scenes are great and all but arguing with your club's players that you’ve already stripped of their shorts because they won’t give you the top they’re wearing in the greatest moment of their career is a bit much."
