Moises Caicedo to Manchester United: The reason why a transfer might not happen

Man Utd v Man City: How do Fernandes and De Bruyne match up?

Manchester United’s interest in rising star Moises Caicedo is clear but there are reports a possible transfer is being complicated by the youngster having too many agents representing him. There had been claims that a deal worth a reported €4 million (£3.62m), plus bonuses, had been agreed between the parties but that has been denied by his club.

Independiente del Valle’s general manager Santiago Morales insists Man Utd have yet to lodge a bid for Caicedo but said other European clubs are interested.

And The Athletic’s respected Manchester United writer Laurie Whitwell today stated: “To complicate matters, Caicedo has multiple agents claiming to represent him, so United are having some trouble nailing down exactly who has the mandate to act on the teenager’s behalf, and there are competing factions attempting to promote him, hence a proliferation of stories surfacing.

“Amid all this, United are also conscious of managing the costs that can arise when numerous intermediaries become involved and that means there is still quite a way to go before any possible solution is found.”

United are expected to bid for the 19-year-old in the near future though, having watched the player in person in South America.

The Athletic state former captain Antonio Valencia has also been asked about his fellow Ecuadorian.

Independiente del Valle’s Morales has recently admitted that he does not expect the player to remain with the club in 2021.

“There’s interest from various teams for Moises Caicedo and we believe that we will not have him this year,” Morales told Radio La Red.

“There is much speculation, but we are surprised that they even talk about values. We haven’t had any communication with Manchester United, although we have spoken with other great teams in the world.”

Caicedo looks up to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and United’s own Paul Pogba, admitting that he tries to model his game on the French pair.

He broke into the Independiente del Valle team in October 2019 shortly before his 18th birthday.

Caicedo enjoyed a meteoric rise last year as he became a regular for his club side and was handed his senior Ecuador debut against Argentina in September.

The centre midfielder made history in his second cap when he became the first player born in the 21st century to score in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.

He has made four caps in total and is reportedly not short of offers, with Chelsea and Ajax said to have made contact with his club.

Speaking to Machdeportes, Morales said: “There is another club interested in England and also a team of the five top leagues in Europe.

“We have two strong teams from Europe interested in him, without reaching any agreement yet, but we hope their negotiations will be quick.”
