Tottenham are reportedly still holding out hope that they can prise Mauricio Pochettino away from Paris Saint-Germain with the Argentine coach showing ‘interest’, but it will be far from straight forward for Daniel Levy. Spurs parted ways with Pochettino back in November 2019 with Jose Mourinho coming in as his replacement.

Spurs had hoped that Mourinho would be able to take the club to next step and win their first piece of silverware since 2008.

But they struggled to make an impact in the league table before being knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb.

Tottenham did reach the Carabao Cup final, but Mourinho was sacked just days before the trip to Wembley against Manchester City.

The club confirmed that Ryan Mason would take temporary charge until the end of the season while Levy whittled down his shortlist to bring in the right manager this summer.

A host of names have been linked with taking the vacant job at Tottenham, but Pochettino has emerged as a shock target in recent weeks.

Pochettino only took over as PSG boss back in January, but it appears as though he’s interested in a return to Tottenham.

According to Football London, the 49-year-old has kept in close contact with a number of people at the club and messages Levy ‘regularly’.

The report points out that Pochettino is yet to find a home in Paris, choosing instead to stay in a hotel, while his wife Karina has largely stayed in their UK residence.

DON’T MISS

PSG though are not showing any signs that they’re willing to move on from Pochettino just six months after bringing him to take over the club.

And time is against Tottenham as they desperately want a manager in place in time for the summer transfer window and for whoever is in charge to put a pre-season training regime in place.

The summer transfer window opens on June 9 and with the European Championships and Copa America taking place this summer, a host of clubs may be looking to get their business done early.

Playing the long game in the hope that Pochettino will eventually return to Tottenham may well cost them in missing out on transfer targets.

But the other issue Tottenham reportedly face is being at risk of alternatives to Pochettino no longer being available.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag and recent free agent Antonio Conte are named as two top targets for Tottenham.

Conte left Inter Milan earlier this month and has been strongly linked with replacing Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid.
