Marcus Rashford was ‘fuming’ at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in Man Utd celebration

Marcus Rashford was "fuming" at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when celebrating his goal for Manchester United against Tottenham, according to Owen Hargreaves.

Rashford was dropped from the team that started the 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool, with the Red Devils boss opting for a front two of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

The England international was brought on in the 71st minute of the Premier League encounter and scored his side's third goal.

But no smile could be seen on the forward's face as he ran towards the away fans and booted the ball he'd just scored with into the stand behind the goal.

On the incident, former United midfielder Hargreaves told Premier League Productions: "I think you could see that in his celebration, he was fuming.

"But when two legends of the game are playing ahead of you it’s hard to complain in a sense.

"He [Solskjaer] is never going to drop Ronaldo, he needed somebody else in there and Cavani was fabulous last season. He probably deserved to start sooner."

Solskjaer changed to a 3-5-2 formation which meant Cavani, who has been limited to a bit-part role this season, came in as a second striker.

Rashford himself has barely featured this campaign due to the shoulder surgery he underwent following the Euro 2020 final.

But since his return he had scored twice in roughly 150 minutes of football before the weekend, so his frustration at being benched is understandable.

However, the decision worked as the new frontline, which have a combined age of 70, both netted before Rashford added the icing on the cake.

It seems in a time of trouble Solskjaer is relying on his experienced players, with fellow youngsters Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho also benched.

Hargreaves feels this is a necessary sacrifice to make to shore up their current issues.

He added: "Having Rashford and Greenwood to come off the bench, as much as it will hurt them, maybe right now for the balance of the team.

"They looked good today and Rashford will get goals coming off the bench, definitely."
