Marcus Rashford responds to Man Utd agreeing transfer terms with Raphael Varane
Marcus Rashford has called on Manchester United fans to “stop spamming” his social media accounts after the Red Devils announced a deal in principle for Raphael Varane.
It brings to an end a summer-long pursuit of the Real Madrid defender from United, with a fee of £42.7million understood to have been agreed.
Varane’s arrival is United’s third signing of the transfer window, following on from Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
The Frenchman is thought to have signed a four-year contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and he will immediately become Harry Maguire’s partner at centre-back.
It is the second marquee arrival at Old Trafford and will make Solskjaer’s men one of the favourites to win the Premier League title.
United were thought to be stalling on their negotiations with Madrid as they sought to bring down the 28-year-old’s price tag.
But with the season fast approaching and Varane being one of their manager’s top targets for the summer, United have appeared to have relented.
On Tuesday evening they confirmed that a deal in principle has been reached with the La Liga giants for Varane’s transfer.
Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Raphaël Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised,” a statement read.
One of Varane’s new team-mates will be Rashford, who has become a key player at the Red Devils side under Solskjaer.
The Englishman has been bombarded by United fans eager for their club to complete their move to sign Varane on social media this summer.
The 23-year-old has now responded to those replies and offered his own welcome to United’s latest new arrival.

The Red Devils tweeted the announcement with the caption “Bonsoir, Reds. We have agreed a deal in principle for the transfer of Raphael Varane to United!”
To offer his own hello message, Rashford quote tweeted United’s post and followed the club in taking to the language of his new team-mate.
“Can we please stop spamming my posts now, oui oui,” the England international wrote.
It follows up his message for Three Lions team-mate Sancho when the winger completed his own move to Old Trafford.
“Yes x Welcome brother @Sanchooo10,” Rashford wrote when United announced they had signed the 21-year-old.
Varane will form a fearsome United backline alongside centre-back partner Maguire, right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and left-back Luke Shaw.
It will provide Rashford and his fellow attackers with the perfect base from which to fire the Red Devils into title contention.
But the Englishman may have to wait before linking up with the World Cup winner, as he is set to undergo surgery on a shoulder injury.
It is still to be agreed with United, but if Rashford does go under the knife, he is expected to be ruled out for as many as 12 weeks.
