Manchester United ‘are planning on making a £43MILLION bid for PSV star Cody Gakpo in the January window’, after his impressive World Cup campaign… with Red Devils looking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo with the in-form Dutch forward

  • Manchester United are set to reignite their interest in PSV star Cody Gakpo
  • The Red Devils had scoped out a potential transfer for Gakpo in the summer
  • After his recent World Cup performances, they have now been convinced to act

Manchester United plan to launch a £43million bid for PSV star Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window, according to reports.

Gakpo, 23, has been on United’s radar since the summer arrival of Erik ten Hag and, after his recent World Cup performances, the Red Devils have now been convinced to submit a bid for the forward.

Ten Hag has insisted the club will do ‘everything in our power’ to sign a forward following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club last month and it could likely be Gakpo given their previous interest in the star.

Manchester United are reportedly set to launch a £43million bid to sign Cody Gakpo

The winger has been on the shortlist of United boss Erik ten Hag since the summer window

According to the Telegraph, Holland star Gakpo has been lined up as the replacement for Ronaldo and a bid will submitted in the coming weeks.

United boss ten Hag recently confirmed: ‘Yes, we want to sign a forward in January but only when we find the right player. We will do everything in our power.’

Gakpo has been on United’s shortlist since the summer – when Erik ten Hag arrived at the club – however they weren’t convinced to act at the time.

Instead, the club opted to sign Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax and had Gakpo as a back-up option should that transfer fall through.

But, after he impressed at the World Cup with three goals in five matches, they are now ready to submit an official approach to sign the forward.

Ten Hag feels an additional attacking option is needed with Gakpo primarily a left winger for PSV but a centre forward for his country.

Gakpo had been pursued by Leeds United and Southampton in the summer however remained uninterested in a move to either club and instead held out for a different transfer.

He has since scored 13 goals and contributed 17 assists in all competitions for PSV on top of his emphatic campaign for Holland.

However, the Red Devils may also face competition from Newcastle and Real Madrid in their pursuit to sign the in-form winger.

As well as Gakpo, Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos from Benfica.

ESPN have reported that United are to make an enquiry about the availability of Ramos during the January transfer window, though it could be difficult to get the signing done as soon as then due to budget constraints.

It would be the second time Ramos has replaced Cristiano Ronaldo, after stepping in for the Portuguese icon during the knock-out phase of the World Cup.
