Conor McGregor puts on surprise sparring session for kids at boxing club

Conor McGregor has put on a surprise sparring session for a group of kids at an Irish boxing club.

The former UFC double champion continued his preparations for a return to the Octagon this week by training at the Crumlin Boxing Club in Dublin. McGregor surprised a group of youngsters at the club in the south of the Irish capital, sharing images from the session with his 45.8million Instagram followers on Thursday.

He posted pictures of the excited kids posing for photos with him as he got his hands wrapped as well as shots from his sparring, along with the caption: “Boxing for the kids.”

The 34-year-old has been out of action for over a year after breaking his leg in his last fight, a technical knockout defeat in his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

McGregor is understood to be targeting a return to the Octagon in the new year, with Michael Chandler and former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira amongst the fighters eyeing a bout with the Notorious one.

The Irishman has also teased a potential third fight against long-time rival Nate Diaz, six years on from their two meetings in 2016.

Diaz has left the UFC after fighting out his contract with a fourth round submission victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 last weekend.

Following the win, Diaz fired a dig at McGregor in his post-fight Octagon interview, stating: "I want to get out of the UFC for a minute and show all these UFC fighters how to take over and own up another sport how you’re supposed to do it."

"Cause Conor McGregor didn’t know how to do it. None of these other fighters know how to do it.” McGregor previously took a two-year break from mixed martial arts to fight Floyd Mayweather, but lost their boxing bout in August 2017.

He later responded to Diaz on social media, hitting back by saying the American would be "nothing without me". Prior to Diaz's final UFC fight, McGregor had promised that their third fight "will happen" in the future.
